Nonprofit Leadership &
Management Institute
Certificate Program
in collaboration with the
Center for Community-Based & Nonprofit Organizations
at
Austin Community College (Austin)
Along with the Center for Community-Based & Nonprofit
Organizations at Austin Community College, TANO will
premiere our Nonprofit Leadership & Management
Institute Certificate Program in the first quarter of
2007. . The
Certificate program will provide participants opportunities
to acquire the knowledge, skills, and relationships necessary
to lead and manage small and mid-size nonprofit corporations. It
is for those already engaged in or aspiring to be volunteer
and/ or professional leaders and managers within the
Nonprofit Sector of Texas.
NLMI will raise the bar on the practice of professional
and volunteer leadership and management in the Central
Texas area, and other regions of the state, through its
comprehensive and rigorous approach providing diverse learning
opportunities. It will foster a Nonprofit Sector community
of practice, developing a cadre of informed, motivated
and effective nonprofit professional and volunteer practitioner
leaders who will build their professional networks so as
to support each other (throughout their careers) in the
difficult work of strengthening societal resources and
assets for assuring the community’s quality of life.
Striking a balance between the varied formal and informal
approaches to volunteer, professional and organizational capacity
building, (e.g., formal graduate
study, undergraduate academic study, continuing professional
education programs, online study, etc.) NLMI will focus
on both the “learning” and “experience” required
to be a committed, competent and effective leader within
the Texas Nonprofit Sector,
The Certificate process will allow participants to attain
a disciplined view of self, of the organizations in which
they operate, and the overall environment of the Texas
Nonprofit Sector. Meta, macro and micro approaches
and perspectives, and the competencies required for effective
success in each of these will be emphasized. Participants
and graduates will strengthen their ability to identify
opportunities and challenges; develop strategies and plans;
implement the strategies and plans; oversee their implementation;
and evaluate the effectiveness of what has or has not been
achieved for the purpose of improving practice as well
as achieving the desired outcomes.
We are in the final stages of completing curricula and
recruiting session leaders. We expect to begin active
recruitment for the first class of 25 to 30 selected individuals
very soon. If you are interested in being considered
for one of the select places in the first class and would
like more details on the program scope and costs – or
are interested in being one of the Certificate program
underwriting sponsors to help provide scholarship support – e-mail bsilverb@austincc.edu.
NLMI - the Certificate program is
designed to be the most comprehensive nonprofit leadership
and management experience available in a non-degree granting
setting. It will draw upon the very best resources
of our region, state and nation to promote exemplary leadership
and management within our nonprofit sector. Co-chairing
the Certificate development are Barry
Silverberg, Director of the ACC CCBNO & President & CEO
of TANO, and Don
Shafer, ACC CCBNO Advisory Council Chair and Chief
Technology Officer at Athens Technology who has much experience
in building professional development programs..
